And this doesn't appear like some crazy hi-tech technology. What would deter a stateside spring maker to start to make these upon seeing loss of sales from traditional leaf springs to parabolics?

The shackles are extended, as I mentioned, we were trying different spring combinations. The pictures show a few different lifts actually. We got as much as 6 inches of lift and as low as 2.5 to 3 inches of lift by removing leaves and changing shackles.
I believe the main difficulty in developing these springs is the tapering of the leaves. You can notice that the center of the springs are thicker than the ends of the springs. Parabolics are nothing new to the U.S. market, just new to the Toyota market. A lot of larger commercial trucks are using parabolic springs from what I hear.
