A good used crank will be a $1000 or so and then it really needs to be stripped down an examined thoroughly which is 2-3 days labour plus reassembly nd installation.
Then there is a chance it will need more parts or maybe even a complete rebuild.
It takes a lot of force to snap one of those cranks.
IMO you would need to have $10k set aside on top of the purchase price.
Maybe youll get lucky and it will be half that.
And yes it can be made reliable at a price with someone who knows these engines.
If I was a US citizen I would convert my 80 series gasser with a good used diesel.
