[quote=SunFuCru] Can't errosion be dealt with? Can't new trails be blazed responsibly? Cant damage be repaired? quote]

There is a area in So Cal near Gorman that was shut down over 20 years ago due to erosion and tearing up the land. It is visible from the I-5 as you head over the Grapevine. No vehicles have driven on that land in 20 years and yet it still looks like hell. Last Spring I did a new trail that I discovered on Google Earth. It is near Death Valley and from the looks of it it was used to access mines. Along the way we found shoes for burros, broken down horse drawn wagons. The trail was deeply rutted from the wagon wheels in areas. I don't know when or if there had ever been a motorized vehicle on the trail. My point is that after probably 100 years this trail was still visible. What we do has a lasting impact. There are plenty of these old trails out there, especially in Nevada. No need to go blaze brand new trails.

Here is a shot of just one section of the old trail. I am all for opening these old trails up, not making new ones.
