2003 4Runner failed CA smog test- need ideas to fix

Gents, looking for some ideas to fix.

My 2003 V8 4Runner failed CA Smog test. I had it tested Monday and then brought it back again today (Wednesday) with 70 more miles on it, and it still didnt pass.

The emissions and visual pass. The Continuous monitor tests failed.

I have never disconnected the battery, or had a dead battery (the smog guys asked me if it had).

The smog check computer saw the following for the Continuous Monitor Tests:

Missfilre- COMPLETE
Fuel system- COMPLETE
Comprehensive component- COMPLETE
Catalyst- NOT COMPLETE
Heated catalyst- NOT SUPPORTED
Evaporative System- NOT COMPLETE
Secondary Air System- NOT SUPPORTED
A/C Sys Refrigerant- NOT SUPPORTED
Oxygen Sensor- NOT COMPLETE
Oxygen Sensor Heater- NOT COMPLETE
EGR System- NOT SUPPORTED

I havent tried disconnecting the battery or a reboot of the computer. Any info about how to reboot the computer or things to check before I bring it into the shop?

Thanks for any info. I am an old school Land Cruiser/ Chevy guy and these new Toyotas leave me scratching my head.

cheers!
Dustin

I think I'm in the same place as you here... from other vehicles just disconnect the + battery lead for a few minutes and reconnecting should get it to go back to base settings and then it should go from there.
As far as knowing when to take it back in for a smog test?? I hope the test doesn't cost you every time.
It almost sounds like the quickest solution is taking your test results into a Toyota dealership and have them hook up their analyzers/computers and see if they get the same results and then see what can be done to improve them.
just my 2 cents
Yup not like working on a cruiser!

If I am reading this right, it sounds like the monitors were not in the readiness/complete mode, usually that happens when codes are cleared or the battery disconnected. It doesn't look like there were actually any codes that were thrown. I think most OBDII scanners can check to make sure the monitors status is complete, so if you are concerned you could use an OBDII scanner, before going to the smog station.

Do not know if you still have your 6 year or 60k mile emission warranty still intact? If so, take it in to the dealer to have them make sure it will pass the emission warranty.
