Guys, does anyone know how to push my iPhone contacts into my Nav phone book?

Thanks!

There's no way, at this point, as far as I know to sync the iPhone contacts over bluetooth with the nav. I had to export a contact list on my computer, and then open it in a text editor to make sure that every phone number I wanted displayed didn't have any special characters in the data file, including dashes and parentheses, otherwise they won't display properly.

I then brought my laptop into the cruiser, and had to connect to pair the laptop's bluetooth and transfer the contact list from there. Once they are on there, you can then use it with your phone to make calls.

J, I have a bluetooth IBM/PC laptop. How did you link that to the car? Curious minds want to know!!

What software did you use to transfer the contacts from the PC to the NAV?

I haven't tried it yet, but my PC has a Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard... wonder if that works.

My Contacts sit in MS Outlook. Did you put them in a Comma Separated file and how do you know the field names match what is in the Nav so the data goes to the right place?

Did you get it working? I think that after I paired the nav with the computer it was straightforward, as in, I don't think I used any program in particular that wasn't a standard bluetooth interface app. Sorry I'm not more help.

Was your contacts in Excel or what PC application?

I'm on a mac, so they were in address book. I exported the ones I wanted as a vCard.

J, thanks.. how does this process sound (regardless of PC vs Mac)

1. Export Contacts to vCard to clean up all the dashs and stuff
2. Open blue tooth wizard (or whatever it is called)
3. Pair with Nav including PassLock PIN (1212)
4. Send file

I guess I will quickly find out what the Nav does with all the Title Headings (Last Name, First Name, Home, Cell, Fax, etc)

Anyone know how to ensure the headings match so a file transfer works?

Too bad there isn't a way to EXPORT the Nav Table so I can copy and paste my contacts into that exact format.

That sounds about right.

As far as the title headings, that didn't seem to be an issue.

OTOH, the nav will only display one number from each contact, for example, if a contact entry has more than one phone/fax/etc number attached to it, the nav will only display either the first or last (don't recall which)...so when I went in to remove all the extra punctuation from the phone numbers I deleted all the extra phone numbers associated with each contact, and left only the number that I wanted to be associated with that contact.

It took some time, but that way I knew the nav would be displaying the number that I would be using for that contact, and not some random fax number.

Does your contact database use the field "Name" or "First Name" and "Last Name"

Success!

I was finally able to transfer contacts from my iPhone 3G to my LX470 Nav. Here are the steps:
1) synced the iPhone contacts with my PC Windows Contacts (using Vista).
2) edited the list of contacts on my pc
3) exported the contacts I wanted to vCard Files
4) on the LX, went to info -> telephone -> settings -> transfer phone book
5) on the computer, selected the vCard Files I wanted to transfer and paired the computer's bluetooth with the LX

I did have technical issues with the bluetooth being flaky - I used a D-Link Bluetooth adapter, it never ended up working properly on my 64 bit Vista Desktop even though the car's device was found (car parked near the computer), but I was able to get it working on a 32 bit Vista laptop. Not sure if 64 bit had anything to do with it, but just mentioning in case someone tries with one computer unsuccessfully - it may be worth trying on more than one computer. Also, I had to get the latest driver for the bluetooth device to work on Vista (the s/w that came with the adapter didn't work on either machine).

Hope that helps someone else!
