Straps that secure folded seats

Hello everyone,

I have been lurking around trying to find the answer to this question...tried searching and the FAQ, but wasn't even sure what to call the things.

What are the straps that secure the back row and third row seats when they are folded up called?

Can these be replaced? The velcro has ripped out of all of them.

Thanks

i'd re-stitch some new velcro on there. easy fix.pick up some at home depot or lowes.

the straps are called............straps. or seat holders. i dont think there is a technical name for them.

You can buy a replacement, but it's the whole thing - strap and hook. Looks like they're about $50. The EPC name is "band assembly, fold seat stopper".

I purchased industrial strength peel and stick velcro from the local auto parts store and it works like a champ. I am going to stitch once the adheshive lets go. That has not happened in over 6 months. The auto parts guy told me that the velcro was used by the city on outdoor applications and lasts along time. It cost 6 bucks. I took off the original pieces and stuck on the new pieces. I used longer pieces to allow for more surface area for a more secure connection.

I had new velcro sewn on at an upholstery shop. Pulled the seat out and dropped it off. Cost about $10.

My local Lexus dealer had their upholstery guy put snaps (basically metal buttons) on there as a more permanent solution. It works great and won't need replacing.

Replace the velcro with a nylon cam buckle. Holds fast, tighter than velcro, will last the life of the strap, cost about a buck or two at any outdoor gear supply store. A nylon ladder lock will also work but takes a few extra seconds to tighten up. They are even easier to find and cheaper (not that $1.00 is going to break the bank).

I like the cam buckle idea. Will try to find some at REI or another outdoor store.

I've got the same problem, liked the cam buckle idea, went and purchased two 1" buckles, the 1" is tight, but 1.5 would be huge, the 1" fits but, the problem is that rivet on the strap to keep the hook from coming off, got to cut it out or remove the strap from the seat, cutting would be easier but not sure if it would cause probs down the road, maybe some super glue over the slit or something...

Bump, the velcro on one of mine has given up and the seat flopping around slightly is driving me nuts. I plan to just sew in new Velcro, but need to get the strap off the seat. The bolt for the strap is under the plastic shell on the seat. Anyone had that off and how did you remove it??

From my own observations and experience...

The hook that clips on to the grab handle has its own "locking" feature and provides the bulk of the holding power. The velcro is there to manage the loose end of the strap and prevent it from backing off. Try this: with the seat folded and upright, clip the hook to the grab handle, gently push the seat towards the window, and then pull on the loose end of the strap until the other side of the strap is tight. Now, try to move the seat. Unless your hook is not working properly, the seat should not move. How you manage the loose end of the strap in lieu of velcro becomes a personal preference. Think of it like the seatbelt on an airplane.

YMMV.

^ agree. The velcro doesn't really do the holding, it's the hook. To get it really snug, and prevent the folded upright seat from moving a millimeter, push the hook forward (towards the front of the truck) - this gets it really tight.

Not on mine, the velcro absolutely holds the strap from sliding back through the hanger. The angle of the hanger doesn't provide any resistance like a normal nylon strap buckle would, it just loops the strap around. The seat will hold itself upright without the hanger, it just wobbles slightly.

I poked around tonight and can not see any way to easily get the plastic backing off the seat. But, the strap is long enough that I should be able to set the sewing machine right next to the seat and sew in new velcro.

Cory, are your straps threaded through the hook like in the pictures from the OP (mlchang)? Something's not right if you can't tighten the strap down.

If you do end up sewing in the back of your 100, I want to see pictures.

Yep, just like those. There's no tension on the buckle with the strap looped through that way. It's just like a pulley. I couldn't have done it differently anyway, there's a button that prevents the strap from backing through. I wonder if the clip portion of the hanger is supposed to provide tension somehow, maybe the spring on mine is shot.

Oh, and I won't be sewing in the back of the truck, the seats do come out.

I pulled the 3rd row seats and put it next to the sewing machine and put new velcro on. Worked for me.

Funny, I thought I was the only one who had that issue! I don't remember having it with our 97? I think I will have to get the wifey to use her fancy new sewing machine, or hand stitching skills to install the Velcro.

Trunk - I have the same issue with mine. It has been this way since I purchased it. I will look closer to it to see if I can find a way to NOT have the velcro hold the seat still. Right now, the velcro is the only thing keeping it from flopping and sometimes, it lets go. I haven't had any issues with the velcro coming off, but have had to "clean" out the hooks several times to keep it strapped.
