100 series questions for the signifcant other
Well...like it or not...my wife is addicted to her LC's. She just drove 5 hrs by herself to pick up her new (2004) LC and she loves it. - My 14yr old son is equally as happy as he gets her old 94 LC complete with ARB and remote start.
She had some questions and I told her I would post them up for her...
1. Did the 100 series LC come with an aluminum rear spoiler or fiberglass/plastic -painted to match-spoiler?
She doesn't have one on this LC and swears by them...so she wants to find out and get one installed PRONTO.
2. Can the rear seat dvd/entertainment system ONLY be heard through the headphones, or can she find her way around the navi to pipe the music in the cabin? Any way to hook it up to an AUX wire in the navi system?
3. She is having a TERRIBLE time with her Palm Treo (660?) and can not link to her navi system. I have looked on the IH8 forum threads and the Lexus forums, but I can't find why she would have a problem. I know that there are contact download issues, but she can't even get the navi system to connect to her phone. Any suggestions on what to do?
And by the way, you all may be happy to note that she does not let me drive her LC since I drive a domestic SUV...I only get to change the fluids...I haven't even DRIVEN the dang thing...but I did get to sit in the front seat for about 10 minutes the other day...
Thanks for any insight on the questions above. Mine is not to question why. Mine is to do or die.
Brian

Been married almost 19 years - I have 3 fantastic kids - and who wouldn't love a woman that drove 5 hrs in one direction, by herself, to buy a truck?

There are at least 2 if not 3 variations of the rear "spoiler." It's purpose is to help keep the rear window clean. The early 100's (98-02?) had the optional aluminum ones while the later 100's had the fiberglass/composite/whatever spoilers. Many owners on here who have it wish it never came with it but it does serve a purpose.

Great info...thanks...the wife swears by her 80 series aluminum rear spoiler and wants to put one on the new truck. Just trying to figure out which one, so now the hunt is on to find the fiberglass/composite spoiler...

I'm pretty sure the one on my 98 is not aluminum.

Admittedly, I have never seen one up close as my LX didn't come with one. But from afar, they resemble the one on my 80, which was some type of alloy.
What do you think the 98-02 flat spoiler is made of? Plastic?

The biggest "uggh" about installing the OEM spoiler (other than it's appearance ) is you need to drill holes in the liftgate. There is a 3rd OEM, JDM spoiler/visor which may not require drilling. You'll have to check with Mot for specifics.
Looks like this.
To buy.

1. I have an 03 LC and it came with a black composite spoiler
2. She can mod the front DVD system to play while moving. Search this forum for details. Then she would not have to pipe the rear DVD to the front.
3. Don't know.
4. Sell your domestic SUV and get an LC. We don't want to hear about a divorce over SUV jealousy.

Pairing of the phone is touch and go depending on manufacturer and model. I have experienced three with mine and blackberry connects best so far. They don't list the Treo 6 series as compatible, but that doesn't mean it won't connect.

Thanks...
1.Great looking wing. Will check into it..
2. I will have to mod the navi system (printed off the "how to" last week) - but the problem is that she has the rear OEM DVD monitor as well. - so would I pipe the picture to the rear DVD aux jack so any DVD in front has speaker capabilities or send the rear DVD signal to the front?? My domestic has an OEM rear seat "kid quieter" that I can switch to the speakers or turn it off and let them use their headphones while I listen to the front radio unit - just wondering if other forum members had to do this...
4. Sorry - in the rust belt, it is easier n' cheaper to buy domestic if I ever have to wrench it. Besides, my SUV is bigger than hers - thank g0d

What 14yr old CAN'T???
My 8 yr old pulls my truck out of the garage every morning to warm it up for the drive to school.
Bad Parenting 101 states: get your kid behind the wheel as soon as they can reach the "go" pedal. But only in daddy's truck....
Seriously, we have enough property that the kids can enjoy minimal time behind the wheel and I would never think about letting them on a public road before they are licensed to drive. My son will start drivers training in June and he can't wait. In the interim, I am going to have him tutored on how to overhaul the LC engine so it is ready when he is and he knows how to keep his truck rolling along. Teaches discipline and responsibility in my book.

I'm not sure but I think she has the 755p so I printed off the pairing instructions and will give it a shot tonight.
Thank you for the info...
Now on to my search for a rear wing!

I am not too familiar with the OEM rear DVD system. Does it have its own DVD player or does it show the DVD from the 6 disc changer in the center console?

Yes, it is independent of the front DVD system/player.
The OEM dvd player for the rear seat is located (not too conveniently either) in the third row.

In that case I would leave the rear system alone and just do the mod for the front to watch a movie when the situation allows.
You could get all high tech and install a splitter and switch to also allow the video from the front to display on the 2nd row headrest monitors.

The 04 Cruiser came with a black composite spoiler that resembles the 80 spoiler. They are not painted to match.

A wise man has spoken! In a few years you can have the kid over to work on your vehicles while you & the Mrs play with the grandkids!
Genius!
