Specific question re: DVD bypass

Most of the threads that I see regarding the DVD bypass are from 2006. Since many people on this board have had this done and years have passed, I just wanted to make sure that doing this mod does not wind up damaging the GPS or other functions of the NAV unit over time.

I just got my first LC, a 2002, and am stoked. I just want to make sure I am not about to screw it up by doing this. I would be really put out if I cut these wires and then my nav unit hit the skids.

So, for those of you that have had this done, could you please just let me know if everything is still good with your system?

Something like "I did this back in 05 and everything still works great, trip info, maps, etc." would give me the confidence I need to do this mod.

Thanks!

Did it on my '03, all is well. I can watch DVDs while driving, but can't change destination in NAV, so it failed to do what I was really after. A lot of nav functions are still disabled in motion, kinda disappointing.

So your e-brake light is permanently on? Seems like something that would be simple to overlook, but not for my simple brain, it would drive me nuts. I think others posted that this would happen since you ground the brake wire?

There is a key sequence that allows you to overide the nav system so it is functional while you drive. You have to do it every time but it does come in useful on long trips. I can't remember the details but it is documented somewhere here.

You have to get the the info / settings screen that shows the calibrate menu botton (I think) then you press top left corner (there is no button) bottom left, top left, bottom left and then bottom right. Then you get to the menu options that allow you to overide (this is in a 02, not sure if it works later, also not sure on the screen exactly. Will check when I get in the truck later.

I have the key sequence written on a piece of paper in the glovebox, it doesn't seem to do anything. Maybe I cut the wrong wire?

I tried it yesterday on the 03 and it works. I do not believe you need a wire cut for this to work. You should get to a new screen with blue buttons if you did the key sequence correct.

correct, no need to cut wires at all for the ket sequence to work - but if you did cut the wires it still works as well... works great on my '03
