How do I lubricate the drivshaft? Do I need a special grease gun and special grease?

I was also interested in changing the axle oil as well as the transfer case oils. What brands of oil do you recommened non synthetic? Also do you know what brand Lexus/toyota uses for these oils. Alll help much appreciated. Thanks so much

You need a tip that will fit on to a zerk (the fitting on the DS). Be careful loading grease into the slip yoke zerk. Some people have over-filled that cavity and then the DS isn't able to compress. The actual axles don't (shouldn't) have oil in them, just the differentials. I recommend synthetic, but for regular oil get what ever is on sale. Not sure what brand they come with from the factory, most dealerships use a house/contract brand and it varies. My local one uses Pennzoil.

The driveshaft uses a very standard NGLI #2 grease (~$2 a tube at a discounter) and a standard grease gun with a flexible zerk head (the standard) is what you need. A moly-fortified EP gease is often recommended at the Slip Yoke to reduce thunk (my 98 FSM only says MP grease, meaning whatever you got) . The front u-joint is a real tight fit with most heads so you may need to search for something with a thin profile.

Any diff oil in 75w-90 will do. I haven't seen a fluid related failure on the board yet and I doubt we ever will if they get changed every now and then. Don't bother searching for a 80W-90.

Most dealerships are not servicing with a Toyota branded fluid but a major name bulk fluid that meets the spec'ed standard.

The driveshaft does not get overfilled. Under-serviced driveshafts get blocked seals and do not allow for proper flow of the grease around the seal
. Read my post #45 in the following thread for a good description of the situation.

Squeeze till new clean grease flows from the seals. The goal is to push dirty contaminated grease out and replace it with slippery new grease.
