Drivers door lock not working

My drivers door lock has stopped working except when I lock it with the key. The remote, nor the lock button on the inside panel of the doors(say if I unlock it from the passengers side) will not unlock it.

I suspect it has something to do with the auto lock mechanism in the drivers door since all the other doors are locking fine. Just thought I would reach out to the faithful to see if anyone could give me details around fixing this.

Is it as simple as changing a part out on the inside of the door? What is the cost of the part? etc.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Mine did the same thing a few weeks ago. The odd thing is it only did it a few times one day. It has been working fine ever since? I'm sure it's going to die soon, especially since I wrote this!

Wow...I guess they say things happen in 3s? Mine would not unlock this morning and I had to open with my key. I just went out and tried it now and it appears to be working. This has never happened before today

I too would guess it may happen again and am curious what the fix is??

Thanks...Tom R

Mine has been doing this for a few months now. It is intermittent but becoming more frequent. It was at the dealer this morning for an oil change and I had them give an estimate on fixing it. The door lock actuator is bad and would be around $400 to fix it. I haven't told them to do it yet.

Ours on the 2000 LC did the same thing a couple of years ago. The electric lock mechanism (w/ the solenoid) needs replacing. It's not too bad of a job. There are several threads. Search "door solenoid". Here's one. http://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series-c...-solenoid.html

Hope this helps.

Mine (06) did exactly the same thing. It was a bad actuator and cost somewhere around $350 for the repair.

Mine too! drivers never works, pass side sometimes. Works less the hotter out it is. Kinda funny the pass side didnt work last summer, worked fine all winter, and back to not working again. Just need the time to fix it. Must be a semi-common prob

It's been in the 100's here this week, and when I go out to the truck after work, the driver's side of the truck is facing the sun. When I unlock with the remote, both left doors don't wanna, but the pass side doors work! If I use the key in the cylinder, it works of course.

Later on in the evening, or the next morning all the door locks work! I'm wondering if I should take it in for warranty, but it might just be too hot for the solenoids, and not be a warranty issue.

I have the same issue with my 2000 with 143k miles. I have been using the key for 2 months. Using the key makes me feel like I traveled back in time before keyless entry.

Mine has done this intermittantly for a few years now. If it quits working entirely, for $400.00 I'll live with using the key. I never use the remote for my tundra as it is a pita to carry. I can do the same with the cruiser.

Same here. I will just use the key until one of the 1h8mud guys writes up a do it yourself guide like the one for the starter contacts.

98 with 167,000 miles and my driver door lock is doing the same thing. It only works 50% of the time with the remote and it is happening more and more every day.

It doesn't bother me - its the that it pisses off -since it's her daily driver - so at some point soon - I'll have to foot the bill or find a wrecked one and swap the solenoids.
