100 series worn out suspension....
my 98 has 155K on the clock and i am thinking the suspension needs to be changed out. Has anyone actually worn out the OEM suspension?
I am guessing it is a good time for a OME.....

I've noticed improvements in the past when I've changed out old OME for new OME shocks. I would guess the same to be true for OEM.

Shock valves and bushings to wear out. Springs sag and torsion bars loose their spring. You can get OEM shocks really cheap from Dan, like $25.

If you're not going to lift it, just get the OEMs.

Uh, you'll need new suspension to support the new bumpers? That's all I've got.

I had this exact same question about a year ago when my 99 had about 200K on it. I was thinking of going OEM since they are cheap, and was convinced not too. I'm surprised you have a recommendation to go OEM. The overwhelming majority was to just get bilstein shocks, which I did from ebay, and it was a very wise move. A bit stiffer, not as much body roll in turns, rides nicer. Worth the $333 I think I paid shipped on the bay. That is my .02. Cary is the one that convinced me. Maybe he'll show up and convince you.
It wasn't as hardcore as going OME (as it's not my trail ride yet, key word, yet), but is a nice upgrade from stock.

One good point of the OME is a smooth an easy ride on the dirt. Trail rides don't punish you and you come back fresh. At my age that helps.

No, not too hard, but there were moments I was cussing. The rear shocks like to spin when your unbolting them, so coming up with a way to hold them is necessary. I took the brute force way, and drilled a hole through the top casing of the shock (the unpressurized part) and put a screwdriver through it and then held it. You'll have that problem whether you go OEM, bilstein, or OME.

I went with the full OME deluxe medium kit from Slee that includes Slee's diff drop kit. The installation was very easy as I had them install it since I'm lazy and live nearby! I've been very happy with this setup for the last 40K.

If you're doing the work, since your truck is/has been in the NE, start spraying the shock bolts so you don't snap a mount.
Oh, and for the off-topic tangent:

Who would advertise bumpers and not give the year of the vehicle they are for?
For anyone in the area, the Fog lights are over $300 alone - pretty fair deal it would appear.
For advise on shocks, depends on what you want to do with the rig. Mall Cruiser = comfy OEM, occasional off road and/or more sporty ride = Bilstein, lots of off pavement and added ground clearance = OME.
I still need to talk my into something. Perhaps after Mosquito Pass trip this month she will see the benefits.

i am guessing that only the OME shocks wont give you more ground clearance.....

Unfortunately not. You need the springs to complete the job. Although you can crank up your front torsion bars a bit to level out or lift the front.
