Another rim/tire fit thread.. :)

Ok, I think I have it down to:

- BFG MT KM
- Toyo Outdoor MT

My question is about rim size (again)..

I have a 2006 LC with the stock 18" rims.

I want to go to smaller but hear different things.
- Some say that they might fit and I should try to find some one and actually test it.
- Some say that nothing but 18" will fit. Their reasoning is usually that the LC (2006) came with 18" only because nothing else would clear the calipers.. If somehting smaller would fit, they would have used that since it's cheaper..

Does anyone know anyone who put on aftermarket rims smaller than 18" on a 2006 LC???

If I can only fit 18", I might just use up the tires I have and replace them later with BFG or Toyo.. If I can get something smaller allowing for meater tires, I want to buy a 2nd set of rims and have it for offroading (and keep my street tires for daily commuting..

Thanks for any input!

OKAY, go to your local dealership that has a used 100 series that is 2002 or older. Then KINDLY ask if you could take the spare wheel down and mount it on your truck to see if the wheels will fit. I've done things like this (not with wheels but other parts).

That, or put in your avatar where you're located and maybe someone in your area will offer to meet up and you can do what I just said above.

Search, I know the OEM 16" on a newer 100 has been covered.

98-02 wheels have been covered on the 03-05, however there are rumors that the 06-07's will not accept the smaller wheels.

Yes, that is exactly what I have experienced..

Some say they will fit fine while some say that the 06 and 07 has some monster brake calipers that only 18" can wrap around...

I would be bummed if I had to go 18" with my offroad shoes.. But, if I can wrap some aggresive (MTs) 33/12s around some blacked-out 18", I guess that would work..

Just would be so much cheaper and provide a bigger footprint when aired down if I could go 16", 16.5" or 17". (The 18" one have a much thicker side wall and cost around $300-$350 per tire...)

Thanks for your input!
ps
I'm in San Diego, CA btw.

Hmmmm... I have some 16"s at home, but haven't test fitted them yet. Might have time tonight or tomorrow if nobody chimes in sooner. I've heard they fit.

If you're in the L.A. area, you can try on my 255/85s on OEM 16s... they fit on my 2004. Might fit on yours, too!

Fantastic! if you don't mind, please PM me when you tried it!!

Your sig says AHC lift.. what is that? I have the AHC option.

Also, it says 285/65/18.. Is that the largest you can go on a 06-07 LC? Do you need the "AHC" lift to make this fit?

Do you think 305/70 on 16" would fit? Same diameter but maybe too wide?

Appreciate your input; doesn't seem to be too many 06 and 07 LC owner on here!

Appreciate the offer! I'm in San Diego but head to LA every once in a while.

Let's see what Schlaker finds out.. He seems to have an 07 with some 16" at home...

I think I read somewhere that the 06 and 07 have bigger brake calipers...

Could have larger calipers... I still think they'll fit.

Here's an OZ-Spec '06-'07 V8 GXL with factory 16" steelies...

Sounds promising..

Sorry, not so familiar with the LC.. What's a OZ-spec 06-07 V8 GXL spec?

I guess I could just jank a wheel off, measure the diameter around the caliper and take it to a shop..

How much clearance should you give the caliper though.. They obviously get hot but you shouldn't need that much space, should you...

Thanks for info and pic. Sweet ride!

No worries, appreciate the follow-up!

I keep my fingers crossed... I so hope 16s will fit an 06 LC.. Then I'll find some OEMs, slap some 33 Toyo MTs, go to Pismo and air it down!!

Thanks again!

who still uses wheel locks? Just one more thing to complicate repairs on the trail.

FWIW...2006, 1.5" AHC lift, 275/70R18(33.6") Cooper Discoverer ST. They fit stock height with no rubbing. I run the beach all the time aired down to 12psi and have had frequent run-ins with VT granite. No worries offroad. :th:

Quick update for you..

Fitted some 16" rims from a 98 or 99 LC on my 2006 LC.

It was close.. but they fit! Surprising was that I had more space for the front than the rear.

The rear is very close but nothing hits.

My next step is to buy some Toyo 285/75/16s and air it down to 10 psi and get ready for the dunes!!

What is the model number inside the rim? There are 3 different models that I can see in the parts catalog. Two different 5 spoke 16x8JJ(Type A and B found on the LC and LX) and another only on the LX The 16" LC 5 spoke rim that I tried 2 years ago DID NOT FIT on my 2006. The 17" wheel BARELY fit. I wonder if there is a difference between the Type A and B wheels differentiating them between LC and LX...

I don't know (not at home this week).

But, I would be happy to check when I get home and get back with you.

If some 16" LC rims fit while other don't, I can see the potential confusion..

I know! Toyota still uses them. They came with the truck from the dealer along with the hood protector, running boards, fake marble trim, rear spoiler and other unnecessary items! Yes they suck... just haven't made it a priority to replace em with lug nuts yet.

Sorry I couldn't help with the fitment question, good to know they work!

Awesome. :th: Would be great to get to the bottom of this finally. Might even be a replica wheel issue. The code inside the wheel will tell. Take pics of the clearance too please...

good point (about the replicas), the clearance in the front is one finger... the clearance in the back is the width of those sticky balance weights... like the thickness of a regular ruler.
