1999 LX470 Aftermarket stereo install

Hi all,

I am a 4runner guy myself but my dad has a 99 LX and his stock 6 cd indash Nakamichi player skips all the time. He would like me to replace it, and I'm looking at an aftermarket nav unit, probably the Eclipse AVN6620. From what I have researched in a few minutes with the search button on this site, it isn't the most straight forward topic. I have a general idea, would like to get some clarification on some things.

1.) Like I said before it is the Nakamichi 6 disc system and I would like to use the stock amp/speakers for now.

This post:
http://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series-c...tereo-faq.html

provides a link for the harness to use with the stock amp. This is the link to the harness (the link is broken):
http://www.audiooutfitter.com/store/TA03B.html

After searching around the site with the broken link, I found this:
METRA - 70-8112 - Toyota Amp Intergration Harness - AudioOutfitter.com
The product doesn't have a picture or much information, but it says something about 15 pin. I have not pulled the nak unit from the LX but according to this:
Car Audio Wire Diagram Codes Toyota - Factory Car Stereo Repair - Bose Stereo, Speaker / Amplifier Repair
the nak 6 disc unit has 12 and 20 pin connectors, so i dont think the harness i linked to above is correct.

Can anyone point me to the correct harness for using an aftermarket stereo with the stock amp in a 6 disc nak truck?

Am I going in the right direction? Is the LX wiring even the same as the LC?

2) I haven't really seen any discussion about the antenna. Does this mean it plugs right into aftermarket units? I know some toyotas have 2 antennas which can complicate things.

3) For you guys who have installed double din touch screens:
How is the fit? Did you use something to fill the gap? Is there a kit sold somewhere to do this? I would like to maintain a clean look.

Thanks in advance

i couldnt find a harness when I did my setup in december of 04. I dont think the radio harnesses are the same between a LX Nak system and LC system.

My antenna worked fine with my aftermarket kenwood setup...and ill go get a picture of the radio in dash, cant seem to find one right now.

below are pictures of the back of my 2000 M/Y remand unit since the first one did the same thing your dad is dealing with...heck even this reman one started doing it too.

here are some snaps, To make pretty we just took a piece of ABS plastic and cut a square out of it. It could be fancier since its in a lexus, but I couldnt care less...it works.

thanks for the reply and pics. How did you wire up your unit then? Power/ground/antenna lines as normal and then pre-amp outputs to the harness going to the stock amp?

i didnt install it but i watched the audio shop. They cut the vehicle side of the harness(yeah I know i DIDNT want that but oh well) and then spliced it with the radio harness.

Oh man, I was afraid about that. I find it surprising that no one makes a harness for LX470's. Do you know if they used the pre-amp speaker outputs?

This is going to be more work than I thought.

Anyone have the wiring diagram? I really don't want to pay someone else to cut the harness...

I received a wire harness from Crutchfield and it does not match up perfectly, there are still wires to match up with the diagrams.

No, it is not as easy as some make it out too. Those that do make it look easy or sound easy, just have a knack for this stuff. Can't believe I changed my timing belt and water pump, but I am affraid of the stereo install.

Is that on your LC? Do you know if it will work on the LX?

If there is a harness that fits that would be great even if the wires don't match up. I'm fine matching up the wires correctly, but I really want to avoid cutting the stock harness

Check with Crutchfield, not sure if it is just Toyota, but I would not think so.
