Magnetic sheets

has anyone tried to use magnetic sheet on their exterior before going to the trail to avoid scratches and mud stains?

We saw a whole Hummer club on Deer Valley, many had die cut "Invisable Bra" type protection. Most also had some of the most Pissed off trophy wives you have ever seen in the PS seat.

I think some pin striping gives a rig character, thats my story and I'm sticking with it.

Tearing off moldings builds character for both the rig and driver...I think I have lost both rear moldings...somebody behind me was nice enough to pick them up...

It either buffs out or it doesn't. If it doesn't, then it was meant to be!!!

I think the answer is: No.

I've yet to take mine off road yet, don't really have a good set of tires for it yet, but AZ pinstriping says a lot about what your rig is really for. Atleast that's my opinion.

That was the stock saying on the trip the above photos are from.

"That'll buff right out!"

Wha? Go for the pinstripes. Makes great stories and shows you actually left the mall.

Between the pinstipes and countless city dings, my 100 looks about 10 years old.

I've heard of someone trying celophane, but never a whole magnetic sheet. Keep a good coat of wax on like everyone's said.

I think he was talking about the invisiable bra type plastic. As I mentioned it is available in die cut sheets that fit exactly on H2's and H3's, maybe Discos as well. I've never seen it for 100's.

Scott_sFZJ80 is using the magnetic flexible sheets for protection against the brush. Here is his ROTW: http://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-te...tt_sfzj80.html

Looks like a good investment, 'specially for us black cruisers.

if i end up moving somewhere with more offroading areas i will use clearbra film on my whole truck. I have it on the 911 and im not scared to take a key to the paint.

I checked this out before I custom pinstriped my '99 . I was told it would cost upwards of $2,000 and they wouldn't guarantee due to sage brush more than likely eventually grabbing/peeling from the front of each seam (doors).

Let me know how it works out for my next LC .

well on the car, on the front edge of the doors we wrapped it all the way around, about 3/8" back from the seam. Fenders got wrapped around too, basically preventing unsightly edges. However in an offroad environment the wrapped edges would prevent the snagging. Nevada bush would have a hard time peeling it off, it would get the plastic body cladding first...as i saw it get sincity's this weekend.

Clearbra has come a long way in the past year or two, with a lot more options as far as wrapping the panel edges and such

Could you share pricing information? My 100 hasn't aquired as much character as Spresso's, there is still hope for it.

pricing completely varies depending on where in the country you are. If your a DIYer you might be able to get away with even doing it yourself, with some time and patience. Professionally installed on a custom job like the 100 WOULD cost way more then anything reasonable, almost to the price of a new paintjob.

You could order bulk film somewhere such as Paint Protection Film - XPEL Technologies Corp. and then watch a few youtube videos on how to do it and start taking a shot at it. Probably wouldnt look perfect, but if you want to prevent serious pinstriping it would be worth it.

for reference, in NY a pre-cut film install with parts/labor of everything that is shaded yellow would cost a couple grand.

(and yes its 100-tech cuz theres a 100 in the picture)

Sounds like I'd be better off not worrying and taking the rig to Macco for the "Ambassador Special" $499 paint job right before I sell it.

Wrap comes in different grades/thicknesses. Can even change the color of your 100.

my idea is for a flat black hood/roof with ACU camo digital pattern with the colors changed to match the underlying paint....thats what I would wrap my truck in.

Maybe you could spray extra clearcoat on scraped areas and have it buffed out?

My passenger side mirror got scratched up last weekend while exploring in the Coconino NF (tree branch). It doesn't bother me. The way I figure, it's not that it's scratched, it's 'how I got the scratches' that matters. If it's from wheelin' while on vacation, that's one thing, as it'll bring back fond memories and enforce the reasoning for why we own these rigs. If, on the other hand, it's from some smuck in the mall parking lot, that would piss me off.
