I may have the perfect fix for you...
There is a reputable detail shop in Carol Stream that will be able to restore your rig's black beauty. I've gone to one of their detailing clinics and was impressed. They even sell the products that they use at their shop.
Here is their website: Perfect Auto Finish - Kevin Traver - Auto Detailing

just cover the truck in mud, and then never wash it. You will never know its stained.

Done and done. And then we will need pics.

Pics could help us understand the problem.

x2 on the claybar. Make sure you keep a good coat of durable wax on always-I recommend Collinite wax. Get it detailed when it starts looking really bad. And just know that a black truck that is used will never look as good as one that is pampered. Other colors hide flaws much better.

Oh and claybarring can be a little tricky to do right. May be best to leave that for the professional detailer.

I spent an entire day on my truck a month or so ago. Good washing, clay bar, then I used my new toy to hit the entire truck with a light polishing compound and 2 coats of wax. The new toy is a Porter Cable random orbital polisher/buffer. (Model # 7424 if interested - $130) Oh baby does it work nice. You really cannot screw it up like the old fashioned big round buffers. My truck looked better than it did when I bought it 3 1/2 years ago!

pint, you going to keep it now?

I use a heavy duty boat wax on my truck after I learned mudding can really do work on your paint.

Sadly, it just went up for sale today. I need to focus on getting my business rocking and can't swallow 14-16 mpg at the 30K I am driving. Once the business smooths out, I'll be back! In the meantime, I'm not going to disappear!

I recomend driving through narrow trails with a lot of branches, pricker, and sticks that make a fingernail on chalkboard sounds as you drive through, knowing the entire time it is and out and back trail and you'll be getting symetric scratches on the way out of the trail. Repeat that a few times and you'll never see the mud stains again. We call it Colorado pin striping, but I'm sure there's an IL version. Install some MUD tire's and it'll look like it's supposed to be that way.

The detail nuts at Autopia - Autopia Home swear on the 7424.

Don't ever drive it off road ever.

Seriously, though, black is a terrible color for an off-road rig. Obviously, you've got mud sticking in scratches in the paint. Which means you're not keeping your rig waxed. You should be able to clean the mud off at a pressure washer with a lot of soap and hot water. Then, after it dries, wax it up, and keep it waxed.

A polymer paint sealant may be better for durability than a standard wax.

A good coat of wax at least twice a year has seemed to keep my black vehicles clean and clear.
