Very well then, my dealer finally coughed up the answer. The unit is found on the floor under the front passenger seat, by moving it all the way forward. Two plastic plugs are then removed with a flat bladed screwdriver to expose the unit. With the power off, eject the old disk, insert the new, and power back up. That's it.

How much was the CD? Dealer item?
Did you access the reader from the back or front of the seat?
Thanks for sharing this info. I need to do the same upgrade.

Hi
I think I bought it from ebay for around $100. To install it move the passenger seat all the way forward and up. The plastic cover sits on the floor and you access it from behind the seat. You'll need a flat screwdriver to open the two caps. Remove lid. Slide open the little tab and flip on the ignition key to enable power to the unit and press the eject button. Out she comes. Put in the new one. Reboot and press ok as needed. Away you go!

Don't know but I'll be trying it so I have a backup. :-) Why, do you want to store my backup for me?

Worked perfectly. It looks a lot like an OEM.

What did you search to find it on eBay? Is this update common to a lot of other cars? Sometimes I find the exact part used on a more common vehicle for less. I'm after one now, didn't know there were options to the dealership.

Ok, a little searching, looks like my '03 has a gen 3 nav system, and version 7 is the newest update. I can download the data from a couple places, make a DVD, maybe it'll work. Most ready-made disks seem to be selling for over $200. New data would be nice, but not worth $200 right now. It's not like I do much urban exploring these days.

Hey Guys,
I recently bought (stole) a 2000 LC that had a nav from a later model installed. The DVD map was a 4.xx which is a few years old. I was able to download the Gen 2/3 V7.1 and get it working in my nav without any trouble. For some reason it only works on a Verbatim DVD+R or +R DL. (I can't remember which one) Took a few days to get and 30 bucks for DVDs... much better than a few hundred from the dealer.

Torrents... Although maybe I shouldn't have admitted that. Try BitChe and microtorrent... they work wonders!
