Audio Upgrades.....on the 200 series. Looking for ideas from the 100 group....

So I am looking at some ideas for upgrading the audio in my 200 series. I thought I would enlist the help from everyone.

Since the 200 forums are considerably slower for the lack of owners, I would appreciate help and thoughts from all of you!

Oh and lets try and keep the comments related to the topic....I don't really want to hear that the rear hatch looks like a highlander hatch!

200 looks like a highlander, not just the hatch.


I put JL Audio XR series speakers in my doors and a JL A 10" W6v2 in a small enclosed box in the back. Sounds 5000million times better then stock. my sub amp is mounted on the floor just behind the 2nd row.

I am thinking of Focals for the front doors.

I cannot do the amp back on the floor....I have 4 kids and need all the seats down.

Oh and about the highlander thing...you jealously just shows right through...

well I can put my 3rd row seats in no problem even with the amp mounted on the floor, the passengers feet just rest on top if it thats all.

In my old 4Runner, I'm running a soundstream 300w 5-channel Rubicon amp w/ a/d/s 3-way speaks (4 channels) plus 8" sub in an enclosure. The head unit is an alpine w/ alpine CD changer. Now that I've been running it for 8 yrs now, I would consider going w/ a different brand head unit/changer like a Blaupunkt or soundstream. The alpines are way too "boomy" sounding (I prefer "natural" sound), radio is TERRIBLY boomy. The stock radio in my prelude & CRV sounds better than the alpine radio!

Yeah, the 100 was the last great LC on the market. I didn't like the 200 either

And it is what they said about the 80 when the 100 went IFS.

I love the 200 and would love to own one. However, it is the first Land Cruiser model I will probably never own. I'm not in the economic group to buy one new and thinking of buying a 7-10 year old 200 with all those electronics that could fail would keep me awake at night with worries. If I couldn't have it under warranty I wouldn't drive it.

As for the stereo stuff, I did competition stereo back in the old school days. The brand of the component is not as important as the installation and matching of components. What I mean is you can have an awesome sub but if it doesn't fit tonally with the other speakers or the crossovers are wrong it will sound like crap. Find a salesperson who understands this. It is the sum of the components, not the individual components!
