AC/Steering Column/Belt?

I have a situation and I'm turning to you. Never before have I came across this odd combination. I'm not sure where to start.

I have a "delayed" whining noise (about 1 or 2 seconds) after I start turning the wheel, and will continue to whine until I finish turning the wheel. It even have that delayed whine about 1 or 2 more seconds after I finish turning the wheel.

My A/C seems to be the cause of whining noise. When AC gets turned off, no noises. I can hear it from the engine area and I can FEEL the whine around the center console.

Get this... whine will happens even if I turn steering column less than a inch. Then I get that delayed whine.

I'm starting to think it is AC compressor that is starting to go? Or is it steering fluid pump? Causing strain on belt drive?

The truck is 1999 LX470 with 67k miles.

Let me know what you think? or have anyone of you have this experience before?

Your on to the cause.
I would start with the serp belt meter - there are tabs on the spring loaded tensioner that indicate if you need to change your serp belt. Perhaps the belt is not tight enough to turn everything (A/C) all at once, but when you shut off your A/C the belt is fine?
At least that is where I would start - cheapest solutions first. The Serp belt is an easy change.

I checked the tabs. It is within the specified area but its close to the line though. I'll go ahead and replace it this week and report back.

Thank you.

Thanks BMWSTOY. I had some time today to sneak into the part store and buy new belt. Replaced the belt, and it indeed was the belt. Now runs very nice.

Glad its better and welcome. Time to update that signature line, always helps others when your asking questions.
