I have two LH torsion bars!

Hi!

After installing a winch I had to upgrade the torsion bars. I've received two OME LH torsion bars in the package (the instructions in the FAQ say there should be a LH and a RH bar). As I don't have time for reordering as my summer trip is coming up, I've installed two LH bars. Should I be worried about this?

Regards
Samo

They are made to twist only one way.

The likeliness that you could break one has just increased exponentially, especially if you are loaded down.

edit: Don't drive it like that, they may not take it back if it has any wear/stress cracks in it.

Yep
Here is the 2004 Landcruiser FSM

Notice the arrows pointing to the way the spring turns.

Here is the 93 Toyota Pickup FSM

Notice it says "do not interchange" + the arrows showing turning direction.

Here is the sway-a-way installation instructions for a Pickup

There may be no proof that they will break but, the fact is they are made specifically for each side.

What evidence do you have to refute my info?

If this is brand new bar they should be fine. Its the used one that usually cause problem because you are counter twisting it.
Make sure to mark it correctly just in case you need to take it out again.
The spline should line up correctly. The key on OEM torsion bar looked like melted glue gun stick. I removed mine when I re-index my bar.

Thanx for the info guys. I guess I'll send a question to OME (or ARB?). I will let you know, what they say.
These torsion bars are new. If they are not twisted in the factory, then there should be no problem, but if they are...

Regards
Samo

So far I've received no answer from ARB Australia. I've contacted them using the web contact form. Anyone knows a person in ARB that could answer me a question?

The question is: can a brand new LH torsion bar be used on a right side of a vehicle?

Regards
Samo
