Trade FJC for UZJ100?
What do you guys think? I am looking to trade my 07 FJC for a 01 UZJ100. I basically got rid of a FZJ-80 that I loved for the FJC and now want the space back. Not that worried about the ga$ stuff b/c the FJC is supposed to run high test for some odd reason. Give me feedback....

Is your FJC a manual transmisson?
I have a clean 01 LX470, maybe interested. Have any pictures?

A M/T FJC would be my only choice after driving one for an extended period of time. Both are great trucks.

The fuel economy difference between the 1GR-FE and 2UZ-FE is negligible, like 2mpg. Expect to get 17/19 w/ the 1GR, 15/17-18 w/ the 2UZ.

Fun Factor vs Luxury ride and way more room. Thought about this myself, but in reverse.
I too looked at the Gas and there is not much difference there as noted.
I can see both arguments. Now if the the FJC was a bargin like the 100 - I would be more tempted.
I can not see anything else out there for the money for what you get in a 100 and to think you can trade and have money left over for mods - can't say I blame you for the thought.
Find one you can swap for a week - if you were in Colorado, I would....best of luck.

Now if you were debating about whether to buy a new FJC vs. new LC, that would be a different story. To me, the advantages of the FJC are (1) lots of mods available and (2) low cost of new vehicle at the sacrifice of terrible visibility, cheap interior plastic. When I rented a V6 4runner SR5 4WD for a week, I was quite impressed....thought it gave about 2/3 of the 100 ride/feel at half the price of a new 100. Aftermarket accessories are slim other than ARB winchbar, roof rack, OME suspension. Not sure about sliders or rear bumper. Fit & finish were a lot closer to that of a 100, including the simulated leather dash that indents if you dig your fingernails into it rather than a hard plastic dash.

Toyota ammended the need for high octane. There was a release that said 87 was fine.

Hey brother, Cal Eta chapter, UC Davis!
I'm all for the trade, the only possible negative I see is that fact that you'll lose your warranty. But not much goes wrong with either truck, so as long as you find a 100 with a spotless (and complete) maintenance record, you should be fine. Then just enjoy fine motoring, as the 100 drives much better on-road than either the 80 or FJC, and is not too bad off it as well!
HTH,

I did it. If I were you, I would go for the 2003 or newer 100 series however. I traded my FJC in for my 2004 UZJ100. Here's why -
The FJC has had so many rear ends blow up.
The FJC has had a problem with the main bearing in the 6 speed.
The FJC has had a problem with the transfer case sticking in 4-low range.
Two of the above problems have been accepted and covered 100% under warranty by Toyota. The exception has been the rear differential. The diff problem was only present in the very early, Pre-February 2007 models which were imported. My FJC was in that batch.
Now, before people start pointing fingers at the front diff in the 100 series, I can say that I have never heard of a 100 series front diff blowing after it has been fitted with the ARB air locker and solid pinion spacer mod. That was enough for me to consider going for the UZJ100.
The next thing that pursuaded me to go to the 100 was the interior space. I never seemed to have enough space in the FJC. Being a gear intensive individual, I love all the space I have.
Third, the 100 will just tow like nobodys business. Things I have towed with the 100 without any trouble at all would have left the FJ struggling simply because the 100 has the size and muscle to drag stuff behind it. I recently towed a large piece of tree with my 100 and it drove like it wasn't even back there.
I like the 100 over the FJC for all those reasons, and I like the newer 5 speed transmission (with tow package including trans cooler) and much more oppulent interior over the older versions of the 100. Others may disagree, but we all have our tastes.
Good luck, I hope that helped you.
