Mystery part?

No, it's not the lump of steel attached to the frame! I was under the truck today changing out my passenger side O2 sensor (bank 2 sensor 1, changed out bank 1 sensor 1 a few weeks ago-got a code for the other side) and saw this thing. It looks like a small tube (3/8" ish) sticking out and bending 90 degrees from a stud in the block with a nut holding it.

It doesn't look like there was ever anything attached to this but that confuses me even more...

Sorry for the odd angle of the photo. You can see the new O2 sensor to give you a reference point.

Any thoughts??

Looks like one of two block drains for the coolant. The only reason I'm questioning it is that my passenger side block drain didn't appear to be so easy to get to as your pic shows....maybe its the camera angle. You should see another one on the driver's side....same general position.

That would make sense. And no, it would not be easy to get to.

Many here say that it is a vibration dampener. I don't know if anyone can explain it with total certainty though.
