Plenty of info on mods in the FAQ and ideas in the Rig of the Month threads. Browse through those, but not many of the mods are inexpensive, except maybe the console pocket.

Welcome. Personally I like the stock look. Toyota over built these vehicles and they are great looking from the factory. If you plan on using for a special purpose let us know and you will get a step by step mod recomendation. If you remove the running boards you are then required to only date girls that wear short skirts and you will always be required to help them in and out of the LC

It's nice to imagine all the back pain that I could have avoided if I would have had a LC instead of a standard cab Mazda B2000 in high school

People with any other 4x4s spend big $ to modify theirs up to the looks, capability, and coolness of the truck you've got. Get an IH8MUD sticker for the back and enjoy having the best vehicle around.

Forget the mods for now unless you have a few grand to spend. When young, one usually has the time but not enough $$. When you finally start bringing home the bacon, you'll find you have the $$ but no time to really enjoy it other than to buy toys (and buy all the toys you want while you're single like I did!). Take advantage of your spare time now. At least you have a major part of the problem solved (namely, a durable offroad vehicle that can take you pretty much anywhere at your disposal), so you may as well take advantage of it, take it camping, on road trips, tour the country, etc.

Drive it stock for at least a year. If you have to do somethign do a stereo install or something minor. Sounds liek you might have to check with your parents no matter what you do so why not just ask them what you can do to it. Not many on here that do the bling thing, some, but not many.
First thing I woudl do is make sure all your maint has been completed. If you are on a very liited budget a LC isnt the best vehicle, but being as young as you are your parents might help with the maint stuff? Oh and congrats on a sweet first car. Mine was a Mustang GT...man I miss that car.

firstly, you're a lucky bugger to have that for your first car ! I've only just managed to afford my 105 series TD after 2 other cars.
now can I ask why people remove the standard side steps? it may give better ground clearance, but when you come down on a rock/ledge relatively hard i know i don't want my door sils getting smashed. yes im aware if hit hard enough the side steps can get bent up and jam the doors but i know that mine have already saved my door sils on both sides and taken quite a beating

The stock running boards won't support the weight of the truck, they're just plastic with steel supports. After a little contact they look like crap and after a little more they can push into the pinch weld, sill, and doors, causing more damage than they're worth.

A few more thoughts for you reido:
1--wash it, wax it, and learn about the truck, especially all recommended maintenance. You got a hell of a new first ride, and I'm happy for you, but appreciate it and care for it properly. 2--Your folks did for you what I will probably do for my kids some day: buy a tank so they're protected and as safe as possible. But also learn about inertia and the fact that you're driving a 2.5 ton vehicle. Respect the power of it and keep it between the lines. 3--No, none of this is meant as condescending--just sharing thoughts that I'd love someone to share with my kids some day. Enjoy that 100, chief.... Regards 2000 |
