Valve Adjustment
Schedule Maintenance @ 60,000 mile
Valves shim check and adjustment $1440.00 and 1 week in the shop. Is this normal time and price and is this a necessary maintenance item. I am having no problems with the 2003 LC just took it in to the Dealer for the normally scheduled maintenance. Would rather spend $1440.00 elsewhere if this is not necessary.Roger |

I have the turbo diesel and they want to do a valve adjustment and wheel bearing repack every 12,500 miles or 20,000 kilometres. You have to be joking, I will do mine soon (currently 82000 km or 51000 miles). Not sure how often yours needs to be done, but I guess 60000 would be OK, as long as they don't want to do it again in another 12000 miles! __________________ HDJ-100R TD 2003 Best mod, triple washer nozzle squirters Thanks to HOSER |

Totally unnecessary for the 2UZ. I asked about this when I was about to perform my 60K service and no one on this board had done it. If you read the owner's manual, it says to perform an "audible check." In other words, listen for any strange sounds. My stealership recommended a full front-end tear down, not only to regap the valves, but to "inspect the timing belt." Why would one go through all that work just to inspect the belt and not replace it? No one on this board has broken a t-belt before 90K mi, and some belts have lasted close to 200K. Even my stealership admits the 2UZ is easy on t-belts and recommends a 105K changing interval. Your dealer (like mine) is just trying to pad their profits since the LX/LC are the top-of-the-line vehicles (so they assume all owners have $$$$ to burn), and these vehicles are so reliable they can't count on making money off of warranty work or breakdowns like with other auto brands.

Thanks folks! I was hoping this would be the responses as with $4+ gas and 16mpg there are better places to spend this kind of money.Roger |
