Mileage

I took a trip over the weekend and I kept the Cruiser at 62mph on cruiser control ()........ So I was watching the trip computer and I ended up with 16.7 mpg. If I would have hit 17 I would have gotten drunk in celebration..... 16.7 !!

Very nice! I got 16.5 a few weeks ago with no wind cruising at 65mph. I usually get around 12-13, but I'm not real light on the skinny pedal!

Mileage

I took a trip last fall in my BJ42 [3b] hardly ever went over 70mph-usually about 62 and I got 28.6mpg. Diesel aint cheap but this is better mileage than any other vehicle in my stable?

Got 16.24 mpg, not exceeding 70 mph on the way to the coast in 100F heat. I think it was actually better however I had to do some stop and go driving prior to filling up again. These numbers are adjusted for 285/75 r 16s.

Well, 3B is a good and efficient engine, but the bodys are not the same...
I'd be curious to know the BJ100's mpg VS UZJ42's mpg

My tank before last was 14.24 uncorrected. I'm running 315s and I had the Cruise set at 80mph (GPS). No wind. Today, I'll probably get 11-12. I'm going to have a 40 mph headwind.

Sounds kind of low to me. What are you using, 87 octane and 5w30 dino oil? I get 10-15% more mpg's running chevron 91, plus a tad more running M1 delvac 5w40 or 0w40 synthetic (but no gain from M1 10w30). I get around ~18.2-18.8 mpg on the interstate w/ cruise set to 70mph (2mpg worse in CA due to less gas in their mixture). The hotter/dryer the temps, the better the fuel economy. Not sure if it's an air density thing or if the EFI runs a leaner mixture in less dense air. In mid summer, I can squeeze it up to 19.2mpg at 69mph driving on the interstate & on highways in AZ, NM, CO. My numbers are computed strictly by the odometer and amount of gas I use, averaged over many tanks.

It's been about 100 degrees here each day for the last week. So I've got the AC on full blast non stop...and I'm still getting about 15.8 mpg. That includes some time with a canoe on the roof. I'm pretty happy with that.

I agree low to me also

On my return trip from Moab to AZ with CC set at 68 MPH I saw 16.67 (GPS) and was pissed. I figure my roof top tent cost me 2 MPG. I get almost the same MPG pulling our pop up compared to running with the RTT. I plan to build a Air-flow diverter for the RTT in the hopes of getting 1MPG back.

I was running 89 octane. I took a look at the premium price and tanked up on 89. I think we need to have a riot over the current gasoline prices. Remember I also have a full sized roof rack up top too.

No, I'm not kidding. People are already starting to steal gasoline out of cars in the city I live in.

Guess you were not around in the 70's. Im surprised it has taken people this long to start stealing gas....but then again people are a lot lazier today then back then

Oh I was around in the 70's. I am 40 years old

I am suprised people aren't stealing gasoline like crazy right now. I would suggest those who regularly keep a 5 gallon can on their cruiser to take it off before the can is stolen, or the gasoline siphoned out....

What really stinks today is that they are drilling the gas tanks to get the gas.

And Toyota cats are the hot item too. They use a pneumatic shear to cut them in less than 15 seconds.

I'm using the cheap swill, I have been for quite some time. I've experimented and at our elevation the octane rating doesn't seem to matter. The highest we can buy is 90.

I was at 13.3 yesterday. I was impressed considering the wind.

my 100 is stock and does 16+ in San Diego freeway traffic. I regularly do 18+ on weekend trips to LA /Riverside area loaded with 7-8ppl, 65mph and a/c on high 18mpg on 5fwy and low 18 via 15fwy.

I'm sure this will change after a lift and a RTT mounted.

I'll post a pix next time

are you going by the computer's displayed mileage? It's off. It consistently reads 1mpg higher than reality in my case.

Yet another reason to stay out of the city.
i have pretty much stopped calculating. The best I have ever done is 15 mpg, and that was over the winter without running A/C or defrost. I use regular unleaded and run 5W30 Mobil1. I tried premium for several months and had no improvement.
What year models have the 5spd auto? Didn't that start in '03?

My wifes 2003 GX is off by 1 mpg too. I measured manually vs the readout.

Last weekend I drove from KC to Springfield Missouri and avg. 20 mpg there and 18.5 mpg coming back on 91 octane using cruise at 65 mph. Mines a 2004 LX470 with around 40K miles on it. Temp was in the low 80's and manual cal. on mpg

That is insane, 20 mpg on a hundy. Great work! I have changed my average from 12 to 15 by just keeping it under 65 mph on the commute. The blasts to 80 mph+ was not helping anything.

Just loaded gas this morning and manual calculation came up to 16.0 mpg. My computer readout at that time indicated 16.5.

So far with 25+ miles on this fill up the computer is showing 21+mpg but no traffic this morning.

Just completed a trip from Tucson to Flagstaff last weekend, got 18.1 mpg going there using chevron 91 (a big climb up to 7K ft) and 19.7mpg coming back on Shell 91 V-power. Speed was usually around 65mph except downhill, A/C on the entire time since it was 88F up in Flagstaff at 7K ft and 113F going through Phoenix (1500 ft).

Towing a trailer (pop up camper) and 4X4 up a pass to 11,500 feet and I got 14 for the tank but for that type of trip I would have been happy with less - well worth the peace I received

Your lucky! I just got my worst gas mileage ever. 8.2 mpg. I was towing our pop up. Similar to a Jayco Baja or Starcraft RV but homemade. The camper also had a roofrack on it with an art display. The best we've done this trip is 11.4 mpg. And at 4.25/gallon I'm thinking life sucks. We spent so much on fuel and art sales are down that the trip to this show is going to be a major loss. Anyone want to buy any art? See my sig for the website? Tomorrow we head home. I'm hoping for a tailwind.
