Transmission Linkage Sticking
While out of town for the holiday weekend my transmission linkage suddenly began "sticking". It has always moved freely between P, R, N, D, 2 & 1 in the past. Now I am getting some resistance and it doesn't always positively "click" into a gear selection immediately.
Fortunately, the transmission is selecting the correct gear and seems to be functioning normally. It is just the transmission lever that feels different. I had the tranny flushed and refilled by a dealer about 5k miles ago and it really needed it. The tranny has shifted much more smoothly since the service, particularly dropping from OD to D when accelerating. No other symptoms, yet. Has anybody experienced anything like this? Any ideas? This is my DD and I can't afford to be without her and I surely don't want to do any damage by ignoring this. Thanks for the help! __________________ 2001 LC, BFG AT, ART Rotors |

The lever on mine does that occasionally. I've noticed it primarily when it is cold out or when I've run the A/C for a while. It's more like the dust shield that the lever potrudes through that is hanging up rather than the transmission itself. It doesn't do it when it is warm.

Ditto on mine, I will clean the shield and see if it helps. Might help if you can take it apart and get under the cover, I know I have spilled a little coffee or soda at one point or another!

Thanks for the feeback, but my issue was definitely not with the dust cover. There was definitely some binding somewhere in linkage. I say "was" because the situation resolved itself (possibly temporarily) after about 5 days just as suddenly as it started.
I did notice that there was some some resistance in the "lockout" button on the thumb-side of the shift lever. I suspect that somehow that button was not engaging fully for some reason. At this point I am not going to take apart the console to inspect, but I will update if the problem reoccurs. __________________ 2001 LC, BFG AT, ART Rotors |
