4x4Labs rear bumper installation
Modification & installation of 4x4Labs rear bumper before and after.
Since the gas carrier are not included, the tire arm were shifted 3" toward the center and the ladder shifted 1.5 inches toward right. My DS rear brake need to be a bit more visible as a precaution. Chassis Por-15 was applied which is semi-gloss and UV resistant (original Por-15 is not UV resistant).
Cheers,

Since the rear bumper won't fit, actually it pushed my side molding upward by 1/2", I cutted the corners. Some would option for removing or moving the upper tubes.

I put the "cut" bumper back to the truck and the side of body pushed the side bumper outward then I added 1/4" thick washer. Then tacked the bumper underneath.

Inserted trailer hooks thru holes and welded on both side.
The side bumpers is not rubbing anymore.

Yes, my son and I will be at Oysterfest to install rubber mats around trees and anything that is in your way.
Here is what appoarch angle looks like.
Don't tell me you flipped your trailer for the second time. Have you consider adding second shock absorber so the air bags don't "spring" back?

Ok...I won't...but I did . I figure I'm good now...Feng Shui (once on the DS and now once on the PS side...all the evil forces are equalled out now ).
Ooooo...me likes the 'less overhang' of your bumper!

Maybe I missed something but was this a bumper designed for your 100-series or did you modify an 80-series bumper?

I think what Bighead was asking is why did you have to cut and widen the quarter panel portion?

He has the 100 series version...you will have to call 4X4 labs to discuss the fitment issues. I have the same bumper and had the same issues. Still a very nice bumper, better angles and it is solid.

The features it has look good. However it looks weak for impacts from behind. Anything to prove me wrong on that??

It's a lot better than OEM and it would stand up to stoplight bumps. The d-ring mounts and replacement crossmember are plenty stout. Any of the bumpers on the market would bend with a hard hit. All depends on what's hitting it.
All you have to do is lift the truck, then most things go under.

Yeah, trailer hitch RECEIVER (whatever) act like good anchors for cars trying to go underneath..... I had been rear ended years ago and my trailer hitch embeded itself in the cars radiator.
Right, anything can bend. However this bumper looks pretty weak compared to the ARB or Slee for instance.

Tongue's the part on the trailer, receiver is the part on the truck, just trailer lingo fyi. I'd say the 4x4 labs is in between the ARB and the Slee, I've seen all 3 in person.

Obviously you haven't seen one in person. Weak would not be a term I would use to describe it. The Slee is probably heavier duty, but every time I swing mine out I ask myself, "Does it need to be this heavy?" I've never had a manufactured bumper prior to the Slee 100 bumper, I've always built my own. It is plenty nice but I almost think it is overkill. The main advantage to the 4x4 labs over the Slee is the overhang. This is not a huge deal on the 100 though as they aren't ever really going to be a rock crawler.

The 4x4Labs and Slee bumpers is designed in mind for protection from the rocks. My 4x4lLabs rear bumper's sheet is 3/16" thick and bended plus 2"x 2" square tube inside for trailer support, very stout, same goes for Slee's.

Actually we all packing for the weekend trip so I typed a quick reply without reread your question.
Yeah, I had to widened it by 3/4" overall, a glitch in thier manfacturing process, sigh.

A glitch in a $2000 bumper......
It does look nice Jay, and you did an excellent job of making it work. Let us know how you like it after some use! | |
