Headlight Adjusters and re-aiming 01 LX

I have read most of the stuff on the forum about re-aiming headlights but still cannot figure out the exact location of the adjuster(s) and what to turn to accomplish up/down and left/right aiming.

Can someone submit some photos and highlight the adjuster(s)?

I am learning a lot from this forum so look forward to the knowledge and expertise that is available for a true rookie like me.

The above is for the LC. The LX has slightly different specs. The distance between Low Beam V LH Line and V RH Line is 47.6" (rather than 45.1")

The Hi Beam is 40.6" (rather than 45.1") and has a beam pattern more similar to the Low Beams. I don't have the means to post the exact specs right now though.

You are correct, my mistake. For some reason, even though it clearly states "LX" in the title, I thought the question was for a "LC". Hopefully most of the information is still helpful. Thanks for keeping me honest.

Very nice detail!

I looked closely at the headlight assembly and what I see is a 3/8" or so white plastic piece that looks like a wire connector rather than a hex bolt head.

I this what I use to adjust up/down?

Here is an update to my quest for info on headlight adjusters. Below is the last email I sent to a Lexus dealer in Denver.

"Grant

I have included three photos of the passenger side high and low beam adjusters.

The photos are all taken from behind the headlights and from above.

One shows both vertical adjusters. The other two show a closer view of each adjuster. As you can see there are no hex head adjuster bolts as shown in the TIS.

The one for the high beam appears to be made of steel about 1/4" long and has a rectangular shaft and a rounded point.

The one for the low beam appears to be about 5/8" long and appears to be made of white plastic with a rectangular notch in the end which presumably is for the aiming tool.

Please help if you can. Everywhere on Land Cruiser and LX 470 forums all I ever see is the pictures you sent the other day.

Thanks

Gary Sammet"

After I talked to Grant we agreed I should adjust the headlights using the white plastic knob with a short wide bladed standard screw driver.

Presto it worked like magic.

Turning the adjuster clockwise lowers both beams. Turning the adjuster counterclockwise raises both beams. The passenger side is easy because access is available right away. The driver side requires moving the battery to get access.

I would send the photos but for some reason I cannot attach them from my email. If anyone wants to see them email me and I will send them to you.

this thread seems extremely complicated to me. Am I doing something wrong? I just take a philips head and turn the screw/bolt that the arrow is pointed at. Is there a harder way to adjust the headlights?

The pictures from the FSM show a hex headed bolt for the adjuster. The adjuster on my headlight is a white plastic shaft about 5/8" long grooved like a gear. It has a rectangular hole in the end of the shaft which can accept a short flat bladed screwdriver. A Phillips head screw
driver will not work.

The master parts specialist at the dealer confirmed the configuration by looking at the stock item in their inventory.

My LX is exactly like Loud is describing. The hex bolt on top (also accepts phillip screwdriver) is a shaft that extends down about 5". It has a little gear at the bottom that changes the direction and this controls the vertical adjustment. The one towards the upper/outside controls horizontal adjustment.

I'll even take mine apart so you can see! The light assembly just pivots on the upper left corner.
