E&TMcD'sLC is on a distinguished road
Newbie in CO

I have a 1998 LC with 85k miles. I'm looking to mod the slightly vehicle. I'd like to find inexpensive bolt on performance gains and 2-3 inch lift kit that I can do myself. I'm somewhat handy, but I'm concered that I may get in over my head. Any recomendations? Also, I'd like to add an adapter to my factory stereo to control my Ipod. Any suggestions? I have the standard single CD player with cassette.

I can't help you with any "inexpensive" performance gains, but you can find a lift at Slee's shop in Golden, CO. He offers the OME lift in various configurations for $772 on up. They are a wealth of info on LC's and offer a ton of other stuff for your truck in/when interested. Where are you located in CO? Bye the way, welcome to the addiction!

I figured it wouldn't be easy to gain signifigant HP cheaply. What about K&N filters and Borla exhaust? I had a tacoma with a SC, great power but we hated the fancy gas price tag. I'm running cheap pump gas on the LC, I haven't had any performance or engine issues other than 13 mpg in the city. I've check out slee offroad. great stuff, I'm just not sure how hard it would be to install. I'd hate to get my car in peices and not be able to figure out how to reassemeble it. I'm in west denver. I picked up the LC locally owned and maintained in highlands ranch.

Do some searches here on Mad on your performance questions, both the air filters and exhaust have been covered thoroughly. A few on Mud have been looking into exhaust headers for a few years. Nothing available yet as fas as I know. There is a Turbo system, which Slee sells, but it's VERY pricey. AS far as the lift, many on here have done it themselves with great success. I am pretty handy, but had never installed a lift. I spoke to Christo at Slee's and got a quote for them to do it. It was worth my time and money to have it done by a professional, plus I had my truck back in like 4 hours! It would have taken me all weekend for sure. Time is money, but that's just me! Good luck. Seriously, use the search, and look at the FAQ section at the top of the 100 section...TONS of great info. You're in the right place!

How about the 90k check up? where's the best place in town? My wife takes her runner to stevinson, but they want $1.5k, (all the fluids, W/P, Tbelt, etc. I actaully bought my stock rack from Slee, for some odd reason my LC didn't come with one. How much total for the 3 inch lift w/install? I haven't even had a chance to take it offroad yet. Any good places were I can learn how to use all the features w/o destroying it?

I'll send you a PM on the 90K, Give Slee a call on the lift, I don't want to quote a price as it was a few years ago. His pricing is fair, and it's what they do. Plus, when you go to his shop, you'll see some cool stuff and figure out ways to spend lots more $! One fun and easy trail not far up I70 is Saxon mountain. Really nice views as well.

Welcome Since you are in Denver you should check out Rising Sun, your local Toyota club. Rising Sun Toyota 4x4 Club You can get lots of info from local folks and maybe even some help wrenching on your rig. They also list all of the club runs that are coming up. This will let you get comfortable taking your rig offroad.

Another Colorado newbie here. I'm in Golden and coming up on the 90k. Got a 2000 about 6 months ago and did the first somewhat serious (at least for me) wheeling on lake como road last weekend. What a sweet truck.

Pint - can you copy me in on the PM with the tip for where to look for the 90k service

E&TMcD'sLC - Kingston peak trail near James Peak is a scenic easy one to start on too, once the snow melts

I didn't say I would drag the trailer on the entire trail! Just the general area. Set up camp, drop the trailer, go have some fun, return for frosty beverages later...

Black Bear Pass is just a graded road with a couple of tight switchbacks, not really tight like you are going to fall off, just tight for a big 100. (takes a backup or two at most)

Awesome views, scenery, etc. but I was really psyched out by BBP from reading the internet reports of it...went there last August and it is really just a scenic road down the mountainside...(I could see weather changing some things pretty quick on it though)

will be back there August for sure...beats our 110 degree summers..

The switchbacks are reallllllly tight. I heard people driving off the cliff on that pass.

Here's a first person view in a Suzuki Samurai.....

they look tighter than they are....I was on the pass last year with another 100....really it is not a hardcore, scary road. Even Mall Cruisers can do it..

Yeah, but my truck looks pretty sweet at the mall next to a lifted Wrangler, H2 on 22's, H3 with lots of chrome, etc...

P.S. sometimes it's even dirty!
