15A Guage fuse blows when putting in reverse
Hi everyone.
When i put my truck in reverse, it blows the 15A guage fuse immediately.
I have tried unplugging all switches from the transmission, but can't seem to find the reverse switch.
Anyone have some ideas or a picture of where the reverse switch on the transmission is please?
Thanks
Louis

Not sure exactly what switch you are talking about, but an easier place to start troubleshooting and possibly a likely culprit would be the reverse lights ckrty (including trailer wiring if you have it). I have the factory manuals and will try to look for any switches and relays you might be able to check.

Hi e9999.
It is the 15A fuse in the footwell marked Guage. When the fuse blows(as soon as i put it in reverse), all the guages on the instrument panel dies too.
The fuse blows every single time i select reverse.
Thanks
Louis

Is this rig new to you? The reason I ask is that when looking at the EWD, it swows a 10A fuse in the gauge spot, and that makes me wonder if someone put a higher amperage fuse in to keep it from blowing?
It looks like the reverse lights, park/neutral switch, and gauges are some of components on that circuit:
10A GAUGE2
Back-Up Light
Center Differential Lock
Combination Meter
Cruise Control
Door Lock Control
Electronically Controlled Transmission and A/T Indicator
Engine Control
Multiplex Communication System
Navigation System and TOYOTA Parking Assist
(Rear View Monitor)
Trailer Towing
VSC
Wireless Door Lock Control
Maybe the Park/Neutral switch is shorted, and blowing the fuse?
In the picture, it shows the switch on the side of the trans.
I could be totally wrong, but that is what I found on a quick search.

It looks like it's a gray 9 pin connector.
Do you have reverse lights when in R? I think if you disconnect it, bypass the park/neutral switch, leave it in P, put a new fuse in, and jump pins 2&3, your reverse lights should come on.
Plug it back in and see if the fuse blows.
Again, I think this is how to diag. it, not positive.

Hi Joshua.
The vehicle is not new to me, i had it from brand new.
It sounds like you have the manual for the VX variant, with the auto transmission and the V8 engine, as my truck does not have any of the electronic stuff you mentioned.
I have the manual 4.5 6 cylinder model.
How many wires are there going into the switch you are talking about?

we don't have that model available in the US unfortunately. Can you get a EWD for it?

On the 80 series, the gauge fuse handles a lot of stuff, including the back up lites. If u have a short in one of the bulbs (rare) this will cause ur problem. Use an ohm meter to check each bulb.

Louis,
Sorry, I had just got off a shift and had to sleep a while. I didn't read your sig either and I actually only have the manuals for the U.S. specs as well. Have any accessories been added (anything aftermarket)? This is a good place to look. If there is, try removing them from circuit. I would also start checking your ground connections and cleaning them too. Especially ones you can find on the back/under the vehicle coming from wiring looms for the lights. While your under there, it wouldn't hurt to clean your connectors for your lights. I think there is at least a few. I agree with dfmorse about the light bulbs but I did have a ground the other day that was on the rear light circuit that was bad. It was blowing my 100A fusable link and causing multiple other issues.

I believe I have circuit diagrams from the UK with reverse light with manual transmission, it may not be exact but worth a look. PM me your email address and I will send them.
