finally got me some TLC

I finally bought myself a '05 White. I have always wanted one and back in '96 almost bought a '94 but ended up with a '96 Discovery :(

I am checking out everybody's mods and they all look impressive. So far I have two concerns with my '05. I notice some vibrations on the floor board around 2k to 2.5k rpms regardless off speed or gear. Is that normal?

My '05 is a CPO with 63k miles and all service done in SoCal. I noticed the chassis has some rust stains just like some of the pix i see posted here. Is this normal too?

So far it looks like my first set of mods will be Slee deluxe medium suspension kit and sliders.

TIA
Tony

Congrats on the truck & welcome!

The OME deluxe medium lift is what I'm running and love it. You may need to go heavy if you add a rear bumper. Also make sure to look a both Slee's tube sliders and slider steps. Both great products, just depends on your needs/wants.

I really don't like these plastic bumpers. How is the ride of the medium kit compared to stock? Do you know how the ride of the heavy kit with front and rear bumpers and sliders compared to the stock ride?

I don't see much diff between tube slider and slider steps other than the steps seem to stick out further. The construction on both look very strong. How do the steps compare to the tube sliders on the trail?

Check if you have the vibration damper.

That's the one! Go underneath behind the right front tire. SOme 100s have them, others don't. Mine doesn't have it.

Appears normal to me, but then again, I live in the Northeast.

Not sure if it's normal for San Diego.

doesn't look bad at all.
A few trips on a saltwater beach would probably do that...
If it's just surface rust, no worries. If it bothers you, a touch of rustoleum and you're good to go.

Since this is a CPO vehicle not really sure what the previous owner did but the carfax reports it as a fleet vehicle and all services performed by Toyota Santa Monica every 5k miles.

I'll definitely be cleaning up most of it; brush wheel, rust converter and some rustoleum. That should keep me busy for a bit before upgrading the suspension.

tsarte - nice looking truck! The rust looks normal too me. Like others have mentioned, a little cleaning and rattle can to make look nice. Good luck with the mods!

Friend of mine in La Jolla lives on the cliff along the coast and parked his LC outside for 1.5 yrs. It developed rust on the tailgate, plus every piece of metal not coated/painted rusted.

Yup, and Santa Monica is right there on the coast. I bought an International Scout one time that lived close to the beach. The PO always parked it in the driveway with it's driver's side facing the beach. The salty westerly wind and moisture eventually ate up one side while the other side was left in good condition.

Yup, that is the most likely scenario. My TLC is going to need some tlc from me. I live 5 miles from the beach and my other cars did not have these problems so whatever reconditioning I do should help it out.

Looking forward to spending some time underneath my UZJ100. Now I need to do some research on what the good rust converters out there.
