clean up... of my factory wheels!

Ok so my 100 series gets a lot of miles both in the bush and on the road and i seem to burn through brakes like crazy. now before you chastise my bad driving, what i want to know is how the hell do i get all that black brake dust of my wheels? the kits with a brush and spray don't seem to work, im thinking a need a power tool... will a steel brush on my drill kill my wheels?

Any tips/ pointers would be great!!!

you want to strip the paint of those things? dont try what you just said.

Try some Malco "brake-off". That stuff is strong. When your done try getting a brake dust repellent spray, or put a good coat of wax on your wheels.

Yeah, once you get the crud off your wheels, try Collinite #845 on your wheels-it's an industrial strength sealant wax which lasts for months. Great shine as well-keeps my black DD looking good for literally months at a time.

Morrissey, post up how it goes. I've got the same issue. We live on a hill and go thru the brakes yearly. The rims have the nasty brake powder stuck on them.

Gents, it also can be a huge benefit to use a dust-free ceramic break pads. Not cheaper, black pads. The cost difference isn't that great anymore, but my LC rarely has much dust over the wheels.

My BMW had crappy pads, and you couldn't take that thing to the beer-store without needing to clean the wheels.

Waxing the wheels really helps also (per the messages above).

Cheers

these make very little dust, and after 180,000 miles the rotors show very little wear!

yar! ok ok ok, ill try and be somewhat helpful and post somewhat on topic things.

Soberman is right, different pad compounds might yield less dust factor, but you need to make sure they are suited to your application. A good coat of wax like mentioned, and scrubbing of the whole wheel when you wash the truck should be enough to keep the dust down. I never really have problems with dust with OEM pads even on my chrome wheels.
