OEM Sub Tank

I'm not sure if you guys have a fetish for OEM sub tanks the way some of the 80 series folks do or not, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to throw this out there for you. I happened upon it while searching for an 80 series tank. You should be able to have it shipped to you via Seamail (through the Australian Post), provided it fits within their max dimensions. Search "seamail" in 80's tech for more info.

What we need to know is if the '03 Oz LC has the charcoal canister located up there like the North American ones.

Don't know about the charcoal canister, but Christo installed the OE subtank for me and I dig it. Redundant fuel pumps, OE switch, lots of clearance in back.

I checked and they didn't. I have a complete OEM setup anyway, just trying to figure out where to relocate the cannister before I can mount it up. Looks like you have to bend or replace some hard lines...

This truck definitely needs more tank but it takes $$$ and the OEM only adds about 12 gallons. Easier to carry gas cans for most.

Sale thread says "local pick up only. No postage". Guess you 'd need a local agent too.

For many, jerry cans are a compromise in a lot of ways (mainly safety, but for other reasons as well).

On the 100s, I think the OEM subtank is 50 liters, or about 13.2 gallons. Almost THREE jerry cans!

I have also heard reports that the tank may in fact be 65 liters, and if so, that's over 17 gallons (but I have not confirmed this yet - anyone know for sure?).

There are companies in Oz that make off-the-shelf replacement fuel tanks for the main tank. I remember looking at a 30 gal tank for my old 4runner..would have given 600 miles+ range. Although a sub-tank would be slick, relocating the charcoal canister doesn't sound easy...it would be easier to get a custom tank made. Not a good idea tinkering with the emissions stuff, not to mention you might have to have a certified shop do it to remain legal. I know in Oz, the stock 06 LX also has a sub tank. The button is in the wood plate where the hazard lights and CDL are.

Do you have a photo of your charcoal cannister of your LC03.

Where is the charcoal cannister located at from LC98 to 00?

Up to 03 it was in the engine bay. I have one in my 02 and like it, except we did mine on a transfer system and that part sucks. When we did Darren's we did a full redundant system with the factory solenoid switching valve. So you run either of the front or the back tank. With mine, I would have to replace the tank in the aux tank to a high performance unit to feed the turbo. That is on the to-do list.

Good point. I spoke to a Toyota master mechanic (and one who is very knowledgable about Cruisers) and he said that I could probably just move the box and extend the lines to the new location with soft (rubber) lines. That's basically what Toyota did anyway to move the box back there in the first place. Need to crawl under there and look at this some more. I really don't want to abandon the idea of a subtank if it's at all possible. I absolutely hate carrying fuel on the roof...
