Excellent buildup, dieselbigot!
I love that modular rear bumper. It seems really useful. And the triple bourbon+brandy+ absynthe jerrycan holder is a must ![]() You are a lucky guy having a wife that lets you drive such a rig! ![]() ![]() ![]() __________________ Regards, Dandon - Madrid, Spain '99 UZJ100 Euro Spec. - BFG AT 285/75/16 -CB-164.000 Km (102 kmi) - Scratches galore "Our Lady of Blessed Acceleration, don't fail me now!" |

That's my kind of rig. Very nice.
Do you have more pix? (Side view on level ground, side view (profile) of front, side view (profile) of rear, straight frontal, Radio installation, etc) That drawer is a good DIY solution, better than some factory made models. Looks practical to have the sides open at the top, not a full top surface with some useless room on the sides. Did you consider e.g. a flip-up cover on the left, for more sleeping surface? Looking at your batteries, I hope you have insulated the terminals a bit. No point in provoking a short and/or a fire in case of a small accident or rollover. The AO roof rails look smart. Are there any seals under them? Can water gather underneath? Thinking of freezing conditions where water under the rails would freeze and thereby expand destructively in some way. Do you have a pic showing the detail about moving the rubber strips to the top rail to avoid whistling? (This) ROTM is great. __________________ Qui rogat, non errat. 2001 HDJ-100, Stock, AHC, 122' km | ex 1997 HZJ-80 |

Diesel-B,
A great cruiser. Neverr thought I would want a rear drawer system until I saw what you have done. Secure, removable, and a sleeping platform too. You also have me re-thinking my rear bumper options. I think the best expedition rig is one that can be easily reconfigured to meet the loading requirements for each trip. Your rig certainly has that flexibility. Thanks for sharing with us. and yes, more pictures!! __________________ Had: 1971 FJ 40 ; 1984 FJ 60 Have: 1998 UZJ 100 OEM rear locker; ARB front locker; ARB sahara bull bar; OME lift with T-bars; Slee diff. drop, Slee step-sliders and Slee rear bumper w/tire carrier; 285 revos |

It's not a high-volume item, and I'm not sure if Luke has produced any more (though he undoubtedly has a waiting list for them). It took him forever just to get pics of his 80 bumper on the website, he's just too busy. I suspect once he gets a few more under his belt, we'll start seeing a presence for them on his website. If you want to inquire, I'd suggest calling. One thing to remember is that, just like his 80 bumper, it requires cutting off the end of the frame, including the rear cross-member, and until now most 100 owners have not been willing to do this. I know I wasn't, otherwise I'd have one. Having owned one of Luke's 80 bumpers, they are just out of this world. I think Snook is next in line, and his has been excruciatingly slow to build... __________________ Derek Lee `63 Mercedes-Benz UNIMOG (404.115) `64 Mercedes-Benz UNIMOG (404.114) `81 Mercedes-Benz 300GD (460.333) `90 Mercedes-Benz 500SL (R129) `02 Saab 9-5 Aero `04 Toyota Land Cruiser (UZJ100) |

I'm sure his bumper makes for a stronger "cross member" than the factory one that's there. No reason to be concerned unless it for removal and resale at a later date.

Exactly, resale is one consideration. Yes, Luke's bumper is quite stout, stronger than the factory cross-member. But until now the 100 has been so new that most have been unwilling to cut one up. Especially for the ones still under warranty and used as daily drivers. I can just imagine the liability and insurance issues that could result (e.g. get rear-ended, claim for damages and medical, get denied because you modified an essential safety feature of the vehicle). Any insurance industry experts care to speak up? __________________ Derek Lee `63 Mercedes-Benz UNIMOG (404.115) `64 Mercedes-Benz UNIMOG (404.114) `81 Mercedes-Benz 300GD (460.333) `90 Mercedes-Benz 500SL (R129) `02 Saab 9-5 Aero `04 Toyota Land Cruiser (UZJ100) |

Nicely done or nice work in progress... One of my favorite featured rigs I've seen so far... Given me some good ideas for my build as well... The rear bumper is mos definitely sweet but the T3 looks great with the chrome off as well... Sweet ride or wifes ride that is!!!
How easy did the front chrome bumper bar come off your TJM T3??? __________________ 99 UZJ100 285/75/16 MudTerrains, Husky Liners, AVICD2 Navigation/DVD, Kicker speakers & Sub, Yakima Racks, PIAA Camp lights, 4 Hella 500's on stock brush guard, GT Seat Covers, Clear Corners / upgraded all headlight bulbs.... work in progress... How do you like the SOR seat covers? Been looking at those for a while. Also, is this still your wifes truck? If so, I wish my wife would drive something that built! Nice work.

Guys,
Sorry I've been slow to reply...I kinda fell off the MUD / computer bandwagon a while ago and I rarely check this any more. Anyway, here are a few replies / comments ![]() Quote:

So I have done a few things since last summer when this thread first started. I was way sick of the crappy stock sound system so I sprung for a new Alpine W205 Multimedia station with Ipod, Sirius, DVD, Nav capability etc along with 2 new Alpine amps and all new Focal speakers all the way around. Everything is in the stock locations so I didn't have to hack anything up and it sounds bitchin! Long trips are now much more bearable. In fact on the way to Moab last week I watched two movies on the way across NV...pretty cool. I also finally got my Long Range Auto 24 gal aux fuel tank installed...this was VERY nice to have for the trip we just did through the Maze country. It's also cool driving almost all the way from Moab to Sacto on one big fill. While I was at it, I had Mudrak go through my front end and install the ARB locker and big compressor. So that pretty much wrapped up the mods until this trip I just did. Towing my M101 (full of everyone elses gas ), and the weight of the storage cabinet full of gear, fridge full of food, aux tank full of fuel, rear bumper with 15 gals of more gas, roof rack full of crap etc lead me to a new need...AIR BAGS! That and I want to re-do my 2M set up and install the Yaesu 8800 up near the rear view mirror like Slee has on his Hundy...very slick. Then I'm DONE!![]() __________________ ------------------ 88 FJ62 4spd/Toybox/SOA hardcore 99 UZJ100 softcore 03 VW TDI dd 92 M101 cdn |
