| What is this part? It seems just a massive metal block, hold under the frame by two bolts. It's located on the right side, just below the front right suspension sphere. There is none on the left side.

Its a popcorn popper. The only problem with how the Toyota engineers designed it is that the whole rig has to be placed in the microwave...oh wait a minute I wonder if it would work if you drove underneath a microwave tower?
...Just havin' fun wichya! As much as any of us coud determine, without an official response from Toyota, is that it is some type of harmonic dampener for chassis vibration absorbtion. Most of us that are concerned about dragging it have removed it without any noticeable difference...except the inability to pop corn now.
Welcom to 'MUD! |

My microwave oven says "No Land Cruiser popcorn popping!" in a yellow warning sticker. Quote: |

Welcom to 'MUD! | I think I could live with that Anyway, I'm going to let it be, then. I thought it was some kind of an anchor point for lifting or something.
Thanks for the info!

| Conveyor attachment point It's actually use to move the truck along during manufacturing and not cost effective to remove after assembly I was once told. |

| I'm removing mine! Maybe I'll get better gas mileage.
It is a loose component- meaning you can wiggle it. If it was for a harmonic dampening effect I think it would be solid.

| It is a mud sample collector. This was added by Toyota based on feedback from customer focus groups.
Actually, it is a mass damper. (NOT "dampener" - again, the common mistake about the word.)
I've seen smaller mass dampers in various places on various vehicles by other Japaness makers, too.
To be honest, I wonder if this mass damper does any good at all. I do detect some vehicle dynamics NVH problems with my LX, at 45-55 mph. (Oh well - no vehicle is perfect, not even the legendary 100.)

| After reading some other threads I realized this thing is mounted in various places- namely drivers side or passenger side. Mine is on the drivers side. If it's exhaust related, did totota change the way they routed the exhaust through the vehicle? Also noticed the shape changes.
